First Impressions: Millennium Falcon 2008 (BMF)

As of today, I got my hands on Hasbro's new $150-$200 Millennium Falcon and some time to assemble it. I must say, it's huge-- the front mandibles snap-on and a few bits and pieces fit into place. I'll do a full review later, but here are some quick notes on it:

PROS:
- The size and heft are impressive
- The scout ship/escape pod seems to be designed to fit tall and wide figures
- While small, the seats work well
- Loads of sound effects and lights
- Removable floorboards hide a great way to store weapons
- Opening doors reveal a storage bay or brig, you decide

CONS
- Is not so great that it couldn't be done even bigger and better
- Costs the same as 3 of the 1995 release
- Storage doors don't close snuggly
- Labels don't seem particularly sticky (may be unique to my sample)
- Does not seem to have gone above and beyond what could be done for 40-50% of the price

In short, it's the victim of its own hype-- but it's still something you're going to want. I'll post a heck of a lot more pictures, impressions, feature breakdowns, and a video as time permits over the coming week(s).

Eyes On Target: The Clone Wars

Target stores, surprise surprise, are ignoring the big 7/26 street dates. I've seen Commander Fox dress-up kits, entirely full endcap displays, and tons of figures, vehicles, blasters, evolutions packs, and more. If you want stuff, and were going to wait until next weekend, don't-- start hunting now!

Hasbro The Clone Wars: Revealed!

No, really! This isn't stuff you've already seen at retail! (OK, so a lot of it is-- but there's new stuff too!) It may even be vaguely spoilerish as it reveals new characters appearing in The Clone Wars, so click through to starwars.hasbro.com at your own peril. The whole site has been redesigned, and there's information on some new exclusives. Trust me, that part, you're going to want to see. (But again, beware spoilers.)

Clone Watch: AT-TE & More!

In today's toy run news, I spotted the AT-TE, electronic blasters, $20 vehicles, Galactic Heroes, and more at a Los Angeles-area Wal-Mart on retail shelves. What kind of broken street date finds are you seeing? Let us know!

More Tokyo Toy Show Coverage

Site JapanStarWars.com has a lot of nifty new pictures up, including Hasbro's new Millennium Falcon, both USB hubs, and a Gentle Giant exclusive Spirit of Qui-Gon (or holographic Qui-Gon) mini bust too.

...and there's a Celebration Japan Blackhole Stormtrooper set of Chubby figures, but they're somewhat hard to see.

Wal-Mart to get Clone Wars Republic Gunship Vehicle

A packaged sample of what seems to be a repainted Republic Gunship for the Clone Wars line has shown up. It has a Wal-Mart exclusive sticker on it, which probably means pain and suffering for any who dare track it down. Check it out, yo.

Transformers super-site Fan2Fan went to the Tokyo Toy Show and shot loads of new exciting robots in disguise, but also revealed some new Hasbro items! Take a look at the new A-Wing Fighter-- it's just one of several items you gotta see when you click through.

Millennium Falcon Lands in Canada Early

Apparently a lucky collector hit the right Toys "R" Us this week! Snowtroopers.ca's forums are jumping because someone managed to snag this ship at retail over a full month before its target release date. What does this mean for the rest of the line? We should all probably start keeping an eye out for absolutely everything at this point.

Rebelscum Presents New Legacy Rumor List

While it seems anything past wave 1 of The Clone Wars is a closely guarded secret, yet another list of figure and vehicle rumors for The Legacy Collection is making the rounds at Rebelscum. Highlights include another wave of Revenge of the Sith figures and a new batch of A New Hope characters which actually don't sound half bad. Click through for more!

Hasbro Reveals AT-TE from The Clone Wars

The fine folks over at Hasbro added four pictures and a lot of tidbits on their new AT-TE vehicle, due in stores this July. This $100-ish behemoth has gun racks, space for 20 figures, electronic sounds, and all sorts of stuff to make you mad you weren't a child when this was released. Still, fans of all ages are likely to get a kick out of this one. Odds are you should click through and read all about it.

More Exclusive Clearances at Target

On the way around town this morning I spotted the Target Exclusive Aayla Secura's Jedi Starfighter on the 50% off pile at-- you guessed it-- Target. You may find these on the endcaps next to the Galactic Heroes sets, which are also 30%-50% off. Happy hunting!

New Millennium Falcon Featured at WIRED

The folks over at Wired have added a blurb on this giant vehicle. There's not much news here, other than the fact there's going to be flickering, dimming lights to better simulate the sputtering feel of the ship in the movie. And that sounds pretty cool to me.
